R. Kelly Turns Himself In To Chicago Police After Criminal Charges

R. Kelly has surrendered himself to authorities in Chicago after being charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse of 4 girls, with at least 3 of them reported to be under age and one being the subject of 4 different counts.

According to the criminal report, the allegations against Kelly include him performing graphic and unusual sexual acts with the victims aged from 13 to 16 years old.

The surrendering occurred within 24 hours of the "I Believe I Can Fly" singer being charged with aggravated criminal abuse by the Cook County State's Attorney on Friday February 22nd. According to TMZ, nine of the ten counts involve alleged victims ranging in age from 13 to 16 years old. Due to the criminal abuse charge being classified as a Class 2 felony in Illinois, each carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Michael Avenatti, an attorney claiming to represent at least 1 of R. Kelly's alleged victims, turned in a video to Chicago prosecutors reported to be new evidence in the ongoing claims of his abuse. It allegedly showed "Trapped In A Closet" artist engaging in graphic sexual acts with a 14 year old girl. The video plus the testimony of two other women for the grand jury which included more physical evidence, spurred the recent charges.

Avenatti took to twitter with a message saying "It's over" and R. Kelly's day of reckoning as arrived with him having to answer to his crimes.

After 25 years of serial sexual abuse and assault of underage girls, the day of reckoning for R Kelly has arrived.

Per TMZ, Michael Avenatti also plans to go after the "Ignition" singer's team of enablers, including lawyers, agents, managers and others who acted to protect the singer while holding the knowledge of his alleged sexual abuse.

According to case records, R. Kelly's first court date will be in about two weeks on March 8th 2019.
