Prince's Estate Calls Out Trump For Breaking Promise To Not Play His Music

US singer Prince performs on October 11,

Prince's estate is taking aim at President Donald Trump's re-election campaign for breaking a promise to keep the Purple One's music out of its politics.

The Trump campaign reportedly played "Purple Rain" over the PA during a recent rally in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Artists objecting to the Trump campaign's use of their music at rallies is nothing new, but in this case the Trump campaign promised in writing that it would keep its hands off Prince's catalog.

In a Tweet posted late Thursday from Prince's official Twitter account, the estate called out the Trump campaign and included a scan of the confirmation letter it received from the president's campaign, dated almost exactly one year ago.

"President Trump played Prince's 'Purple Rain' tonight at a campaign event in Minneapolis despite confirming a year ago that the campaign would not use Prince's music," the message stated. "The Prince Estate will never give permission to President Trump to use Prince's songs."

Prince's estate did not say whether it would press the issue through litigation.

Artists including Rihanna, Aerosmith, Bad Company and Queen have previously objected both publicly and legally to the Trump campaign's use of their music to entertain audiences between speakers.
