Tyler Perry Donates 5,000 Meals To Families At Thanksgiving Giveaway

Tyler Perry hosted a Thanksgiving food giveaway in Atlanta over the weekend that fed 5,000 families.

On Sunday (November 22), the media mogul's Tyler Perry Studios held its #TPSGiving food giveaway outside of its studio headquarters where the first 5,000 cars that arrived were invited to drive-up and receive non-perishable food items and gift cards.

“First come, first serve of 5,000 families while supplies last," the event’s poster read. "Although we wish that we could feed everyone in need we will close the line at the 5,000th family.”

According to local media outlets, cars lined up for miles with some arriving nearly 20 hours ahead of the event's start time to receive goods. "The first car in line got here at 3pm...YESTERDAY," a local reporter shared on Twitter. "#TPSGiving starts at 8am. Already, lines extend miles long, causing back-ups on Langford Pkwy and I-20. [...] People tell me, the need is greater than ever."

After the event kicked off at 8 a.m., the food was reportedly gone within two hours.

Tyler has become known for her generosity. Back in April, the 51-year-old writer and producer surprised elderly and high-risk shoppers by picking up the grocery tabs of dozens of seniors at 44 stores across Atlanta and 30 stores in his hometown of Louisiana amid the global health crisis.

He also gifted 1,000 Kroger gift cards to Atlanta families over the summer — he went door to door with the Atlanta Police Department to hand the gift card out — and picked up the tab for a number of people's Christmas layaways last year.
