Abilene Father, Son Shoot Neighbor After Argument Over Trash, Police Say

John miller accused of shooting neighbor

Graphic video of an Abilene father and his son gunning down their neighbor after they got into a heated argument over some discarded trash was recorded by the victim's fiancee on Sept 1. The video shows the heated exchange between Aaron Howard and his two neighbors, Johnnie and Michael Miller, prior to the fatal shooting, KTXS reports.

Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge told reporters at a news conference on Saturday that the father and son duo fired at the 37-year-old man, who later died at a local hospital.

"Several days ago we believe, the deceased and the Millers began arguing over trash in the alleyway," Standridge said Saturday in a news conference. "This then triggered a back-and-forth between the neighbors, culminating with today’s violence."

Howard's fiancee, Kara Box, captured the confrontation and shooting on her cell phone, and gave the footage to the television station.

"People deserve to know what actually happened and you know they deserve to know John and Michael Miller are murderers," Box said.

In the video, the three men can be heard arguing with each other, making threats until at one point, John Miller pulls the trigger on his pistol, shooting Howard. Then, his son Michael shoots Howard using his shotgun.

WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO. DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

At one point, Box steps in between Howard and the Millers, in a fruitless attempt to desecalate the situation.

"You can see that I stepped in between them and I said, 'you're not going to shoot my husband' then he fired passed my head," Box said.

Police say at least five shots were fired during the confrontation. Box then screams, and runs toward her fiancee.

Howard was not armed with a gun, but police say he was carrying a bat. When Taylor County District Attorney Jim Hicks told KTXS video evidence like that is always difficult to watch.

"Video evidence like this is always graphic and very difficult to watch. But, it is consistent with the charges," Hicks said.

Both John and Michael Miller were arrested and charged with first degree murder. They currently outof jail having been released on a $25,000 bond.
