Former NFL tight end Kevin Ware Jr. sentenced to 30 years in prison as part of a guilty plea for accusations of murdering his girlfriend and setting her corpse on fire.
Ware, 41, who played for the Washington Commanders (2003) and San Francisco 49ers (2004), reached an agreement on the plea in relation to the death of Taylor Pomaski, 29, who disappeared under suspicious circumstances after last being seen at a party at her Houston, Texas, home in April 2021. The victim's remains were located in December 2021, seven months prior to Ware being indicted on charges of murder and tampering with evidence, specifically a corpse, in July 2022.
Ware was questioned in connection to Pomaski's disappearance in June 2021, authorities confirmed to NBC News. The former tight end was held without bond for an unrelated incident in which he is accused of violating conditions of bond for a case involving drug and weapons charges, KPRC reported.
A court filing in June 2022 sought to have Ware's bond revoked in relation to the separate incident as Montgomery County prosecutors described him as a suspect in the Pomaski case, despite the designation not having been used by lead investigators in Harris County. Ware's attorney, Coby DuBose, told KPRC in December 2021 that the "filing is the first time that it's been suggested that he is a suspect" in relation to the case of Pomaski's disappearance.
