NOAA: Brace For Above Normal Hurricane Season

We need to brace for another above normal Atlantic hurricane season.

NOAA is predicting 13 to 19 named storms, six to ten of them becoming hurricanes, with three to five major hurricanes this season.

National Weather Service Director Ken Graham blames the warm ocean waters, lack of wind shear and a neutral period between El Nino and La Nina.

He says despite proposed NOAA budget cuts, they're ready for the season and will even unveil model upgrades.

That will allow them to expand from 48 to 72 hours the issuing of cones, watches and warnings.

The six-month hurricane season begins on June 1st.
