- Research is finding a major issue in the education field as just two-percent of the teacher workforce nationally is made up of Black men. The non-profit group Teach For America is attempting to increase the number through recruitment practices. Dr. Barbara Logan is the Chief of Equity and Belonging at TFA and says there are four benefits for students who are taught by people of color. Logan says more than 55-percent of all school children are those of color and the research shows an improvement in reading and math for kids with a teacher who they can identify with.
